【27-29 Jan】Discover The Hidden Dimension of Your Voice (3 day workshop)

Do you want to explore your voice potential?
Do you wish to know yourself better through communicating inward and outward?
Do you want to explore your musical, healing and awareness?

This workshop is to Awaken your potential:
  • - to listen better
  • - to understand your inner drives better
  • - to diversify your voice
After this 3 day workshop, you will go home with a renewed sense of self through a fresh look and ‘a fresh ear’ at your voice. You will have a fuller understanding of its complex vibratory mechanisms, and get many new ideas how these operate at the point where body and mind are merged in a greater whole. You learn techniques to better hear the world around you and inside you. The workshop is structured in 6 step by step sessions. In each you develop practical experience with new methods of vocal expression, such as elementary techniques of overtone singing. These can help you to increase your musical/sound awareness, to know what needs to be healed and how to do that.

Mark, the workshop teacher, presented in TEDx Taipei the topic “Find Your Inner Voice in Overtone Singing”. The workshop is an extended experience of it.

For who?

No previous musical or vocal experience is required. Just bring a healthy dosage of curiosity and willingness to explore. The starting point is your own path as a speaker, as a communicator, as a person who enjoy music or simply as a human being. This workshop is beneficial for musicians and artists, for healers and therapists, and for anyone looking for more direction, meaning and depth in their lives.

SESSION 1: Breath, Prana & Movement

Prana is the beginning of life force. Breath is one such process, and the one that happens to drive our vocal sound too. Workshop practices will target to develop your voice to be a powerful tool for relaxation and transformation, depending on how we use it.

Date: 27 Jan 2018 (Sat)
Time: 10am-1pm
Venue: 10/F, EIB Tower, 4-5 Morrison Hill Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

SESSION 2: Sound Journey, Ocean of Voices

This session will focus on unfolding your own internal sound journey through different kind of voices. Class practices target to get closer to yourself, sound around you and subtle interaction between everything like in an ocean.

Date: 27 Jan 2018 (Sat)
Time: 2:30-6:00pm
Venue: 10/F, EIB Tower, 4-5 Morrison Hill Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

SESSION 3: Art of listening

This session will focus on where we can listen with new ears to silence, sounds, and – most of all – our deeper inner voice. Meditations and practices to get closer to yourself, each other and the environment. We will explore the role or space and environment as sources for sound-making, and moving.

Date: 28 Jan 2018 (Sun)
Time: 10am-1pm
Venue: 10/F, EIB Tower, 4-5 Morrison Hill Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

SESSION 4: Polyphony of the body

This session will focus on understanding the world and our body as vibration and its connection to overtone singing, which we begin to learn here. If we make sound together using different voices and melodies at the same time, we call it 'polyphony'. Class practices target to get closer to yourself, your body and uplift your energy and well being.

Date: 28 May 2018 (Sun)
Time: 2:30-6:00pm
Venue: 10/F, EIB Tower, 4-5 Morrison Hill Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

SESSION 5 & 6 : Inner Voice VS Outer Voice (1 full day)

This session focuses on the two levels of body and mind: letting the body speak more (and tune down the mind) and gaining a deeper understanding (knowledge, intuition), using voice and ears as a bridge between the two.

We will explore questions such as: (1) How can you connect deeper with yourself using your voice? (2) What should the sounds you make be like? (3) What can these sounds tell you, and what can others hear in your voice?

Through such questions and a range of exercises you begin to awaken your potential to listen better, to understand better and to diversify your voice. In this part we use anything from meditation to wild dancing, from lying down to walking around singing. We appreciate the importance of silence too.

Date: 29 Jan 2018 (Mon)
Time: 10am-6:00pm
Venue: 10/F, EIB Tower, 4-5 Morrison Hill Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

Quotes

"Sound can redress imbalances on every level of physiologic functioning and can play a positive role in the treatment of virtually any medical disorder." - Dr. Mitchell Gaynor, MD, Author of "The Healing Power of Sound: Recovery from Life-Threatening Illness using Sound, Voice, and Music"

"When we are in a state of health, we're like an extraordinary orchestra that's playing a wonderful symphony of the self. But what happens if the second violin player loses her sheet music? She begins to play out of tune, and pretty soon the entire string section sounds bad. Pretty soon, in fact, the entire orchestra is off. This is a metaphor for disease." - Jonathan Goldman, Author of "Healing Sounds: The Power of Harmonics" and Director of the Sound Healers Organization
